Artist & Design Professional Philip Sassano | | | [ click thumbnails to open in a larger window ] | Here are just a few sayings, that over the years, have seemed to suck the life right out of a project. Or at the very least, set the tone for an amazingly, underwhelming creative discussion.
10.) "I want something cool, but I don't want to spend alot of money." Really? That's good to know, because I was headed straight for uninteresting and a real waste of money.
9.) "My friend who's also a designer thinks we should..." - Please let me know in advance if we're designing by commitee. If so, they really needed to be present at our last 20 meetings.
8.) "My Mother, whose house is amazing, thinks we should..." - Again, please let me know in advance if we're designing by commitee. If so, SHE really needed to be present at our last 20 meetings.
7.) "I really, really like oversized floral." - This is where we just stare at each other in awkward silence.
6.) "We need to find a place for my silk flowers." - Excellent, and may I also suggest we use plastic wine glasses and paper plates in the China cabinet?
5.) "I don't really like color or pattern." - Great, I know just the direction...Primitive Penitentiary. How about Contemporary Coroner? Have I told you how fun you are?
4.) "I saw the same thing at (Insert big-box discount store here.)" - You did, did you? I think I saw your new designer there as well.
3.) "Nothing's really jumping out at me." - Except me...over this table...after two hours and 75 amazing design options!
2.) "My retired Dad does carpentry, and my retired Mother sews." - That's great. They're not touching my project. I find it causes problems when family members double as my subcontractors.
1.) "What can we do to jazz-it-up a bit?" - Let's get this straight...I don't "jazz things up" or "splash color." And I have never...in my life...given anything more "pizazz." Here's how this works. We're going develop a vision. Formulate a plan. And design with intent. Thanks for your curious click. (Comments: info@refinedrustic.com) | |
