In this time of endless catalog clutter and e-mail ambush I appreciate your time and interest. If you are brand new to our site, here are a few random points to help set your design compass to my visual coordinance.
I do not advocate a particular design style. In fact, I believe individuals possess their own particular creative mosaic, that over time, just needs to be glued together. A patch work pattern of experiences that make us inherently different from one another. However, somewhere along the way, we're told we have to visually assimilate. We have to be a bit more uniform. More acceptable. Less mysterious. The obvious reasons for this are many. Some valid. Some completely absurd. Certainly, worth further exploration at a later date. I will concede that other professionals share similar viewpoints, but somehow so many of them still manage to enthusiastically promote tired industry
terms like "transitional"-which we refer to here at the studio as "gutless". Sorry if this offends, but perspective without conviction makes for very boring reading. Anyway, it is my belief that two key elements set dynamic interiors on an authentic trajectory for success. The first is Personality. The second is Risk. Why is this? Because they seem to never go out of style.
In this business, I see wonderfully coordindated spaces, done by both professionals and individuals that look great, but more often than not lack the critical ingredients that give environments soul. If you want safe...please stop reading. If you are in search of fine or nice...please stop reading. And please keep in mind...this is only my opinion. Gleen from the mind stream what you will.
My subsequent perspecitves, concepts and product spotlights reflect my passion for interiors that challenge today's packaged and all too common design thoughts. Some of my opinions may be unpopular or uncomfortable. I assure you, I have only the best of intentions. After all, we're talking design here. Not surgery or science. But even if we were, disturbing our collective creative complacency is the only way we really grow.
Consider this my humble attempt to help professionals and individuals think more like artist's than traditionally affected designers or decorators. I will try to curb the all too attractive "quick fix" impluse that can lead to poor decorating choices. And if by chance you must have that quick fix, we will help you determine when that fix becomes counterproductive to your long term vision. I will look to champion quality & substance over quantity & the meaningless. I hope to inspire you to first create, then to assemble, orchestrate and finish. I will help you discover the "big idea" that exists in every interior. How to make your design look "portable". And above all, I will share with you my experiences finding, fabricating and displaying personal design mosaics. - Philip Sassano (Comments: info@refinedrustic.com)
